DEVOLUTION AND COUNTY GOVERNMENT

Hail Hon. Mungatana and other like minded MPs for faithfully staying the noble course of protecting our hard earned constitution.

Kenyans understand that majority of our MPs have not yet been delivered from the hangovers of  single party rule  and centralized power.

Let all Kenyans  awaken to the fact that we are in a new era. This wanton adulteration of our constitution.  They have been at it with the issue of women representation, election date and  now  the office of the senator, at the county government level, among others.
Hon. Jeremiah Kioni's fronted bill for scrapping of the office of the senator is a slap in the face of Kenyans who voted overwhelmingly for the new constitution.
The office of the senator is pivotal and  key to functioning of the the structure of a devolved government .Before anybody thinks of the cost of sustaining that office it would be wise to consider the cost of going  back to Kenyans, build consensus on  a new structure of  government and ultimately doing a referendum to pass the same.
  The opponents of this  office on the basis of cost should first propose lowering of salaries.
In the spirit of the devolved governance, the office of the senate provides representation of the  local government in the top levels of the central government.Central government will not wield the usual excessive power.
 From the look of things some people may imagine  the equivalent of the current parliament being  the senate in the next government. This is not only ridiculous but also irritating.

All parliamentary hopefuls should be aware that Kenyans are watching keenly on the way they treat our new constitution.
